B.Sc. CHEMISTRY

The Department of Chemistry was established in the year 2016. As a core department, the department aims at imparting the knowledge of basic concepts of chemistry to the students. The department has 07 faculty members, in which two faculty obtained Ph.D. and few of them pursuing Ph.D. in part-time mode. The blend of teaching experience and research expertise of the faculty members are an added advantage in training the students both theoretically as well as experimentally. The co-curricular activities and extracurricular activities always focus on the eco-friendliness and socially committed. The department provides add-on courses such as Chemistry of Life, Physics in General Life & Beauty Exploration to all the students apart from their regular courses.

First batch (2026-2019) students Ms. N. Mageswari and S.Vasundhra secured 5thrank (CGPA- 9.159) and 6th rank (CGPA- 9.090) respectively. The department has well equipped laboratory with capacity of 50 students. The department organized a power seminar on “Stress Management” with a collaboration of ICT academy. Ms. Manipriya. M (III B.Sc. Chemistry) won won III Prize with Rs.1000/- Cash Prize in District Level Declamation Contest conducted by Nehru Yuva Kendra, Vellore on 12.12.2021.

We the department have planned to conduct 12 events such as Association inauguration, Guest lecture, Industrial trip and Science expo etc. in this academic year. We the faculty members motivated the students to register online certificate courses in NPTEL during the academic year 2021-2022.

Curricular & Co-curricular Activities:
  • Subject oriented seminars will be given by out-sourcing elements for advance learning.
  • Industrial & Institutional visits for improving laboratory skills and confidential building.
  • Carrier guidance programmes such as TNPSC, 7-days Employability Skill development & Soft Skill development program by Mahindra Pride classroom & Naandi foundation attended by our students to succeed their professional goal etc.,
  • Our students are attending many webinars, quiz competitions and online viva-voce examinations to enhance their quality of understanding education.
  • Students have done 150 working and non-working models based on their subjects for better understanding level of concept.

  • COClub, Health Cub, Food club and Rotaract club etc. for enlightening their interpersonal development and management skills etc.
  • They are participating in N.S.S. & Y. R. C & R. R. C as a volunteers for social responsibility.

  • Dr. M. Sakthivel HoD Chemistry received the Best Researcher award for his excellent performance in research career from the Nature Science Foundation, Coimbatore-641 004.
  • Prof. P. Megaladevi, AP chemistry participated in Faculty Development Programme Which conducted by ICT Academy.
  • STUDENTS ACHIEVEMENTS
  • 1. The Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan had organized a district level Declamation contest on 12.12. 2021. The topic of the competition was Patriotism and Nation Building as part of Republic day celebration 2022. In III B.Sc. Chemistry ManiPriya. M got III rd Prize and 1000 Rupees Cash Award.
  • 2. Department of Mathematics conducted “MATHFEST & MATHQUIZ2022 On 29th April 2022. In which, II B.Sc. Chemistry Students Vishaalakshmi. S.V, Mythili. M and Vijayalakshmi.R Won Ist Prize.
  • 3. Department of English Organized inter- departmental Competition “Abilit 2022 on 23th April 2022. In which, III B.Sc. Chemistry Students achieved IInd Prize in Mime game
  • 4. The Central Government offers the Medhavi Scholarship to help Poor People continue their study. There are numerous awards available through this scholarship. The Department of Chemistry student (III rd B.Sc.) Swathi.V has achieved 1000 Rupees cash award.
  • Sports Day Achievement:

    The 5th Annual Sports meet was conducted on 20.5.2022. The various houses organised several sports activities to inculcate the feeling of true sportsmanship among the students and to improve their physical and social skills. Our department 34 students and 2 Faculty members were participated in different sports, in that and 2 won the Medals, 9 Won’s Cups and remaining students received certificate.

    ASSOCIATION ACTIVITIES

    Inauguration of Chemistry Association (Chemstorm) was held on 28th February, 2022 in Seminar hall, Sree Abiraami Arts & Science for Women, Gudiyatham. This Program was organized by the Department of Chemistry. The chief guest was Dr. D. Gowthaman, Principal, DLR Arts & science college, Arcot, gave a speech on integrated approach in science and technology for sustainable future. This was followed by our Principal, Dr.R.S.Vetrivel encouraged the participants.

    EXTENSION ACTIVITIES

    Face Masks should be used as part of a comprehensive plan of actions to reduce transmission and save lives; wearing a mask alone will not provide enough protection against COVID-19. Hence, III B.Sc. Chemistry Students serviced for the Local peoples by distributing Face Masks in Gudiyattam New Busstand.
